The Board Room – SUP, Surfboard & Foil Board Repairs (Since 2012)

Our purpose-built repair room handles everything from SUP repairs and surfboard dings to foil board restoration, carbon rail work, fin box replacements and delamination fixes. It’s a controlled workshop environment where every board is assessed, repaired and finished to a professional marine standard. Over the years we’ve repaired more than 1,000 boards, and we’re extremely proud of the experience, consistency and craftsmanship that represents.

  • Small Dings process

For small dings under the size of a 20p coin, we can often repair these using Q-Cell filler. This keeps the repair light, strong, and cost-effective.

If the damage is any larger, it will usually require a fibreglass layer over the top to restore proper strength.

We always aim to pigment our filler and finish with a clear fibreglass layer to blend the repair as neatly as possible.

However, on painted boards, a spray finish is sometimes necessary to match the original colour accurately.

Spraying adds extra time and materials, so spray repairs may cost more.

  • Fin boxes/ plugs/ leashes

When fin boxes, leash plugs, handles or other inserts crack, it’s important to get them repaired as soon as possible. A damaged fitting allows water to enter the board, making it heavier and gradually damaging the foam core. Water can also travel under the fibreglass skin, causing delamination and much bigger issues later. Sometimes these fittings break cleanly, but other times they tear foam out around the box or plug, meaning the structure needs to be rebuilt properly. We always cut the area back cleanly, remove any damaged foam and cracked glass, and rebuild the core so the new insert has a solid base. Once the box or plug is set with the correct resin mix and alignment, we laminate over the area to lock it in structurally, then sand, colour-match and finish to your specification. Painted boards may need a spray coat, which can add time. Because this work involves multiple stages and curing times, these repairs can sometimes take longer, but the result is stronger, lighter, and built to last

  • Spraying & Pigment

Colour matching can be a challenge. We always try to pigment a repair to blend with the board wherever possible, but if the board has been sprayed from the factory, it will usually require re-spraying to achieve the best finish. Many brands publish their colour codes online, which helps, but in reality boards often fade or change colour over time, especially in sunlight. We’ll always do our best to match it as closely as we can, but sometimes an exact match isn’t possible. We’ll talk you through this when you drop the board in, or when you send photos for an online estimate, so you know exactly what to expect.
